Bar Screen in Wastewater Treatment: Role, Operation, and Design
A bar screen is the first line of defense in wastewater treatment. Installed at the plant’s inlet, it stops large debris such as plastics, rags, and bottles from reaching pumps or other sensitive units. Screens can be coarse or fine, cleaned manually or by automatic rakes. By removing solids at this early stage, bar screens protect equipment, lower maintenance costs, and keep treatment processes efficient. Simple in design, but essential for reliable plant operation.
